About this piece

Ferdinand II of Portugal — the "artist king," a man with the resources of a crown and the aesthetic preferences of a committed Romantic — commissioned it in 1838 on a ruined hilltop monastery near Sintra. He was twenty years old.

It sits at roughly five hundred metres above sea level, rising from the crags of the Serra de Sintra, above a forest so dense and so persistently shrouded in Atlantic mist that Lord Byron — arriving thirty years before the palace was built — called the place "a glorious Eden." Th

Printed with archival pigment inks on museum-grade cotton canvas, then stretched and framed by hand in solid wood. Listed measurements are the outer frame size. Hanging hardware is fitted before dispatch, so the piece is ready for the wall out of the box.

Every piece is printed and framed only after you order, so we are not able to accept returns or cancellations.

If your piece arrives damaged, misprinted or not as described, we replace it or refund you in full — and nothing needs to be sent back. Write to care@cenzioatelier.com within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a photo.

Dust gently with a dry, soft cloth. Keep the piece out of direct sunlight and away from damp walls. Never use water or chemical cleaners on the canvas. Lift and carry by the frame rather than the printed surface.
